Cubs' Jake Arrieta is dealing with a cut on his right thumb
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta is pitching through a cut on his right thumb.
Arrieta's thumb has been bothering him for a few days now and Cubs manager Joe Maddon said the plan is the same. They will back off his in-between start bullpen sessions for now, but it is a situation worth monitoring for a guy who is coming off allowing four earned runs on Sunday. Arrieta's next scheduled start is Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Assuming he isn;t forced to miss any time in the future with this thumb issue, our models project Arrieta for a 3.61 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 112 strikeouts over 122 innings remaining this season.
