Rays' Kevin Kiermaier (hip) to miss two months

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier (hip) has a fracture in his hip and will be out for two months, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.

What It Means:

Kiermaier slid into first base to avoid a collision with Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu on Thursday and ended up jamming his left hip. He was getting around on crutches after the game, and this report confirms the Rays' worst fears about their star outfielder. This will likely open up more playing time for Colby Rasmus and Mallex Smith.

Kiermaier was slashing .258/.329/.408 in 262 plate appearances before the injury. Prior to this news, our algorithms projected Rasmus for a .228 batting average with 10 home runs, 27 runs, and 30 RBI in 231 plate appearances for the rest of the year.
