Jose Pirela starting, batting leadoff for Padres on Thursday
San Diego Padres second baseman Jose Pirela is starting and batting leadoff on Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
It's Pirela's first chance to lead off in the majors since 2015. The 27-year old infielder was called up two days ago from Triple-A El Paso, and is beginning to be very intriguing. He has a prospect pedigree from his time with the Yankees, and a leadoff gig is fantasy-noteworthy. Chase D'Arnaud was moved down in the order to accommodate him.
Pirela slashed 331/.387/.635 in Triple-A with 13 home runs, 37 runs, 42 RBI, and 8 stolen bases across 201 plate appearances at that level before his call-up.
