Cardinals place Jedd Gyorko on paternity leave
St. Louis Cardinals infielder Jedd Gyorko was placed on the paternity leave list.
Gyorko was away from the team Tuesday for the birth of his first daughter, then he played against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday and Friday in St. Louis. He'll sit on Friday and Saturday before returning for Sunday's series finale against the Chicago Cubs. Jhonny Peralta is starting at third base for the Cardinals on Friday.
The 28-year-old infielder is batting .321/.370/.560 with a .930 OPS in 173 plate appearances this season. He has 8 home runs, 21 RBI's and 22 runs scored.
