Gerardo Parra back in Rockies' lineup Thursday, Pat Valaika sits
Colorado Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra is batting sixth and playing left field on Thursday against the Seattle Mariners.
The lefty-swinging Parra sat out the last two games, but with right-hander Yovani Gallardo on the mound today for the M's, Parra will be back in the lineup. Playing in an American League park, Mark Reynolds will be the DH today, which allows Colorado to bump Ian Desmond over to first base to accommodate Parra. Pat Valaika hits the pine after starting Wednesday.
Parra's on-base ability is actually a hair worse against right-handers this year, batting .283 with a .305 OBP in 105 plate appearances. Still, his power shows up much better against them, as he's maintained a .475 slugging percentage with five home runs at their expense.
