Red Sox place Robbie Ross on 10-day DL
The Boston Red Sox placed pitcher Robbie Ross on the 10-day disabled list with left elbow inflammation.
Ross was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket back on May 19, but he had yet to make an appearance there because his elbow has been barking. That option has been reversed and the 27-year-old left-hander is now on the major league disabled list. There is no timetable for his return to action.
In nine innings pitched prior to his injury this year, Ross tossed a 4.24 SIERA, with a 50.0 percent strikeout rate and 28.6 percent walk rate. When he returns, it likely won't be to a meaningful staff role despite his whiff upside.
