Red Sox sending Dustin Pedroia (wrist) out for an MRI

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is headed back to Boston to undergo an MRI on his injured left wrist.

What It Means:

Pedroia left Monday's game early after hurting his wrist in a collision with Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu. His wrist is swollen and tender, and the Red Sox are expecting a DL stint will be necessary no matter how the MRI results come back. Josh Rutledge filled in on Monday and would be in line for more at-bats if Pedroia is sidelined for an extended period.

Rutledge is batting .292/.370/.292 with six runs scored and six RBI's in 54 plate appearances this season.
