New York Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka struck out a career-high 13 batters Friday against the Oakland Athletics, but took the loss after allowing one run in 7 1/3 innings.
Tanaka held the Athletics scoreless through seven innings before giving up a one-out single in the eighth. It was a tough luck situation, but the Yankees and fantasy owners should feel very good about this performance. Tanaka's command was on-point, walking none, and his stuff was hot, with 26 swings and misses in his 111 pitches.
Tanaka lowered his ERA to 5.86 (3.87 SIERA), and holds a 21.1 percent strikeout rate and 6.1 percent walk rate in 55 1/3 innings pitched this year.
