Red Sox holding Dustin Pedroia (knee) out Friday
Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (knee) is not in Friday's lineup versus the Seattle Mariners.
Josh Rutledge is starting at second base and hitting sixth versus Mariners right-hander Yovani Gallardo. The Red Sox are likely just taking a conservative approach after Pedroia left early on Thursday with a sore left knee.
Pedroia is slashing .288/.366/.374 with a .326 wOBA in 188 plate appearances this season.
