Pirates' Jameson Taillon (cancer) throws 25 pitches off mound
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jameson Taillon (cancer) threw 25 pitches off a mound Tuesday.
Taillon is recovering from surgery on May 8 for suspected testicular cancer. Pirates trainer Todd Tomczyk cautioned Tuesday that the 25-year-old right-hander remains day-to-day. It's impossible to tell at this time when he may be able to return to the active big league roster.
Prior to the procedure, Taillon twirled a 3.31 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 20.1 strikeout percentage across 35 1/3 innings this season. His 8.7 percent walk rate is more than twice what it was during last year's rookie campaign (4.1 percent).
