Tigers option pitcher Anibal Sanchez to minors
The Detroit Tigers optioned pitcher Anibal Sanchez to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
The veteran pitcher agreed to the move in an attempt to get stretched out. Sanchez has started 245 games in his career but has been used exclusively out of the bullpen this season. If all goes well in the minor league stint, the 33-year-old will provide Detroit with another rotation option in case starting pitcher Matt Boyd continues to struggle.
Sanchez owns a 9.00 ERA, 2.05 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts (20.8 percent) in 21 innings pitched during 11 relief appearances this season.
