Seattle Mariners closer Edwin Diaz walked four of the five batters he faced in Monday's game against the Oakland Athletics.
Diaz entered the game with the opportunity to score a save in the ninth inning, and he was then pulled after walking four straight batters, loading the bases and walking in a run. The Mariners did manage to hang on for a 6-5 victory.
Diaz has taken a big step back from his 2016 rookie numbers, posting a 3.80 SIERA, 29.4 percent strikeout rate, 14.7 percent walk rate and 1.37 WHIP through 16 games (15 1/3 innings pitched).
