New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia may require surgery on an arterial clot in his right shoulder.
What It Means:
He's undergoing tests on Thursday with Dr. Robert Thompson, and we should have a better idea on his status on Friday. Addison Reed will take over closer duties in Familia's absence.
Familia has posted a shaky 4.93 SIERA with a 23.3 percent strikeout rate and 1.61 WHIP through 11 games (9 1/3 innings pitched) this season.
