Athletics pull Bruce Maxwell (head) as precautionary measure
Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels as a precautionary measure after taking a foul tip off the mask.
Maxwell was hit in the mask by a foul tip in the first inning, but he managed to stay in for the next two frames. After that, the Athletics opted to err on the side of caution and brought in Stephen Vogt for squatting duties at the top of the fourth inning. Consider Maxwell day-to-day for now.
In his second year in the majors, Maxwell has gone only 3-for-15 (.200) at the plate while his 29.4 strikeout percentage has gone up a bit from last year (23.8 percent).
