Cubs place Jason Heyward (finger) on the 10-day DL
The Chicago Cubs placed outfielder Jason Heyward on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 6, with a sprained finger on his right hand.
Heyward injured his finger diving for a ball in Friday's loss to the New York Yankees. The injury appears to be minor but has taken longer to heal than the Cubs had hoped. Heyward is expected to be activated as soon as he is eligible next week. Albert Almora and Jon Jay will pick up the slack in his absence.
Heyward has enjoyed a modest bounce-back start after his disastrous 2016 season. He is hitting .253/.333/.364 with 3 home runs, 17 RBI's, and 11 runs scored in 111 plate appearances so far in 2017.
