Pirates' Jameson Taillon undergoes surgery for suspected cancer

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jameson Taillon underwent surgery Monday for suspected testicular cancer.

What It Means:

No timetable exists at this time for Taillon's potential return. The 25-year-old right-hander is 2-1 across six starts this season. Trevor Williams will take his spot in the Pirates' rotation.

Taillon has twirled a 3.31 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 20.1 strikeout percentage across 35 1/3 innings this season. His 8.7 percent walk rate is more than twice what it was during last year's rookie campaign (4.1 percent).
