Brett Anderson

Brett Anderson (back) likely headed to Cubs' DL

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Brett Anderson (back) is likely headed to the disabled list, manager Joe Maddon said.

What It Means:

Anderson tweaked his back while fielding a bunt on Saturday. The left-hander stayed in to face five more batters but allowed hits to four of them and eventually called for a trainer. Anderson has a long history of back issues and hasn't looked right all year. Eddie Butler and Mike Montgomery are the top candidates to take over Anderson's soon-to-be-vacant rotation spot.

Health is never assumed for Anderson, thus our algorithms project him for a 5.45 ERA, 11.4 percent strikeout rate, and 7.6 percent walk rate over 71 more innings pitched this season.
