Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Andriese racked up eight strikeouts over seven scoreless innings as the Rays scored a 5-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Thursday.
Andriese allowed five hits (all singles) and walked three in the game, while those eight strikeouts marked a season-high.
While his 3.09 ERA is solid, most of Andriese's numbers haven't been anything to write home about this year, with a 4.20 SIERA, 20.6 percent strikeout rate, 8.9 percent walk rate and allowing a big 40.8 percent hard-hit rate through six starts (35 innings pitched).
