Pirates' Ivan Nova not at his best in loss to Reds
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Ivan Nova gave up four runs and 10 hits in a loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.
What It Means:
Nova was in the strike zone all afternoon, tossing 69-of-88 pitches for strikes. The problem is the Reds' batters seemed keyed in, picking up four extra base hits. The reigning National League Pitcher of the Month finished with zero walks and five strikeouts in his third loss of the year. He faces the Los Angeles Dodgers in his next start on Tuesday.
Nova owns a 3-3 record with a 2.14 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts in 42 innings pitched this season.
