Greg Bird

Yankees shutting down Greg Bird (ankle) 7-10 days

New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird (ankle) will be shut down from all baseball activities for the next 7-10 days.

What It Means:

Bird was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday as a result of a deep ankle bruise that has been bothering him since spring training. Chris Carter is starting at first and hitting eighth against right-hander Mat Latos and the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night. Rob Refsnyder was called up to replace Bird on the Yankees' active roster.

Bird has gone just 6-for-60 (.100) this season while hitting one home run and three RBI's in 72 plate appearances (19 games).
