Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Hector Neris earned his third save of the season as he pitched a perfect ninth inning in a 3-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Thursday.
Neris needed only seven pitches (six strikes) to set down the Marlins in order. The performance was a nice bounce back from allowing a run in each of his last three appearances and further solidifies Neris as manager Pete Mackanin's choice to close games out. His competition for saves, Joaquin Benoit, tossed a scoreless eighth inning for the hold.
Neris owns a 2.19 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 13 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings pitched this season.
