Cardinals' Adam Wainwright whiffs nine and drives in four on Friday

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright yielded just two runs over five innings, and also led the offense in Friday’s 6-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

What It Means:

Wainwright secured his first victory of the season himself by driving in four runs, including a two-run homer in the third inning and a two-run single in the fourth. Despite struggling through his first three outings this year, Wainwright struck out nine and walked none on Friday. He lowered his ERA to 6.27 with the victory, and will try to continue the momentum next week against the slumping Toronto Blue Jays at home.

Our algorithms project Wainwright for a 3.71 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 167 1/3 innings pitched the rest of the way. We peg him for 18.8 percent strikeout and 6.4 percent walk rate over the remainder of 2017.
