Red Sox's Dustin Pedroia leaves with apparent injury
Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was forced to leave Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after Manny Machado spiked him in the calf on a slide.
It appeared to be a late slide by Machado, which third base coach Brian Butterfield took extreme exception to and got himself tossed from the ballgame. Look for an update on Pedroia's status later today.
Pedroia is currently slashing .258/.329/.274 in 70 plate appearances. He has hit no home runs, and stolen no bases to date, but our models project his batting average to regress upward to .296, and we peg him for 13 home runs and 7 swipes over another 581 plate appearances in 2017.
