Phillies' Jeremy Hellickson beats Braves, improves to 3-0

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson improved to 3-0 on the season Friday, limiting the Atlanta Braves to two runs on three hits over his seven innings of work.

What It Means:

The right-hander punched out five on the evening and didn't issue a single walk. The Braves' Freddie Freeman blasted a solo homer in the sixth, but aside from that Hellickson was in complete command. He carries an impressive 1.88 ERA and 0.71 WHIP into his next start on Thursday.

Hellickson's peripheral stats are extremely concerning, however, as he has just an 11.1 percent strikeout rate. Sooner or later, giving up an unsustainably minuscule 4.9 percent home run per fly-ball rate on 56.2 percent fly-balls will come back to bite him -- explaining his whopping 5.31 Skill-Interactive ERA (SIERA).
