Phillies noncommittal on closer situation
Philadelphia Phillies manager Pete Mackanin declined to name a closer after using Hector Neris to close out Thursday's win over the New York Mets.
Joaquin Benoit was used in the eighth inning Thursday before Neris sealed the deal in the ninth to pick up his first save of 2017. Just last week, Benoit replaced Jeanmar Gomez as the Phillies' primary closer, but it appears that may have been short-lived following a Bryce Harper walk-off home run in a loss to the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Neris should be owned everywhere.
Across 8 1/3 innings (eight appearances) this season, Neris has given up just two hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking two.
