Cardinals place Jhonny Peralta (illness) on disabled list
St. Louis Cardinals infielder Jhonny Peralta is on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 16, with an upper respiratory illness.
The Cardinals are hopeful the time off will do Peralta good after his struggles at the plate to start the year. Greg Garcia and Jedd Gyorko are the likely replacement at third base for St. Louis. Matt Carpenter may also be moved back over from first base.
Peralta has gone just 3-for-25 (.120) at the plate with an ugly 33.3 percent strikeout rate and zero extra-base hits to start the season.
