Blake Treinen OUT

Shawn Kelley expected to replace Blake Treinen as Nationals' closer

Washington Nationals manager Dusty Baker confirmed late Tuesday that there will probably be a change at closer.

What It Means:

"This ain't working," Baker affirmed during his postgame chat with the media. Blake Treinen was replaced by Shawn Kelley during a save opportunity Tuesday night after he walked in a run. Kelley finished out the 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves. The 32-year-old right-hander seems to be the preferred option in the Nationals' bullpen moving forward.

Kelley hasn't exactly been spectacular this season, but his 6.00 ERA is superior to Treinen's 7.11 ERA. He's also recorded a 1.17 WHIP and 34.6 strikeout percentage while going 1-for-2 in save opportunities.
