Pirates say Austin Meadows still not ready for the big show
Pittsburgh Pirates top outfield prospect Austin Meadows is not yet ready for the major leagues, general manager Neal Huntington told reporters Tuesday.
Starling Marte's 80-game PED suspension opened up a wide window of opportunity for Meadows, but the Pirates will continue to take things nice and easy with their 2013 first-round pick. Jose Osuna was called up instead for depth purposes. The 21-year-old outfielder could debut sometime in the next month or so if he can show some improvement at the plate.
At the Triple-A level, Meadows is hitting just .202/.280/.417 with seven home runs and 29 RBI's through 186 plate appearances between last season and the beginning of this one.
