Cardinals scratch Matt Carpenter (finger) from Monday's lineup
St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter was scratched from the starting lineup Monday due to a lacerated and swollen finger on his right hand.
Carpenter injured the finger on a groundball on Sunday. Even though he finished the game, the finger is a bit swollen, and the club is giving him the night off. Jose Martinez will play first and bat fifth versus Ivan Nova and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Martinez has gone 6-for-12 with two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI in 14 plate appearances this season.
