Gerrit Cole earns first win of the year as Pirates down the Cubs

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Gerrit Cole earned his first win of the year Friday in a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

What It Means:

Cole went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He had to work for the victory as he threw 118 pitches, walking one and striking out five. He will try to make it two in a row when he faces the St.Louis Cardinals in his next start on Wednesday.

Cole now owns a 1-1- record with a 5.29 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched this season.
