Blue Jays' Francisco Liriano strikes out 10 in losing effort

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Francisco Liriano piled up 10 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings on Thursday, but it wasn't enough as Toronto fell 2-1 to the Baltimore Orioles.

What It Means:

Liriano gave up five hits and two walks with the 10 punchouts. The pair of runs came on a double and a single in the fifth inning. Despite the loss, it was a significant bounceback effort after he managed just one out in his first start of the season last Friday. The 33-year-old left-hander has already put his inconsistency on display this season, but he was excellent this spring and has shown high upside as well. Next on the docket is a home date with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

Liriano pulled his ERA down to 9.00 on the season, but his 3.95 xFIP is a more accurate portrayal of what fantasy owners can expect moving forward. Although a bit skewed, his 32.4 strikeout percentage is on a career-best pace for any of Liriano's full seasons in the majors.
