Yankees' Brett Gardner (neck, jaw) out for series' finale Thursday
New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner (neck, jaw) is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Garnder has been diagnosed with a bruised neck and jaw following his collision with Rickie Weeks in the sixth inning of Wednesday's contest. As of now, concussion tests haven't been deemed necessary. Aaron Hicks will start in left field and hit second as the Yankees battle right-hander Matt Andriese and the Rays.
Gardner is slashing .258/.343/.323 across 35 plate appearances this season with a pair of doubles and five stolen bases, but his 22.9 strikeout percentage is currently on pace for a new unwanted career-high.
