Steven Matz (elbow) will miss first turn in Mets' rotation
New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz (elbow) won't be ready for the beginning of the regular season.
This confirms what was already expected. Matz will receive an MRI on Wednesday as a follow-up with the hopes being he only misses one turn in the rotation. Seth Lugo is the favorite over Zack Wheeler for the Mets' fifth starting spot.
Prior to this announcement, numberFire's metrics projected Matz to go 10-8 in 2017 while twirling a 3.49 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 22.1 strikeout percentage across 162 1/3 innings.
