Mets' Jeurys Familia's suspension expected to be less than 30 days
New York Mets reliever Jeurys Familia's domestic violence suspension is "almost certain" to be less than the 30 games New York Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman received, reports Billy Witz of the New York Times.
Familia was arrested in November on a domestic abuse charge for an incident with his wife, Bianca Rivas, but it was eventually dismissed. Rivas denied suffering any injuries from Familia and Witz says the two sides have cooperated with authorities, so that could explain why this punishment isn't as harsh as Chapman's. The 27-year-old closer met with Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred on Monday and a suspension will likely be set this week. Addison Reed is going to fill in as the Mets' closer to start the year.
numberFire's metrics project Familia to record 37 saves in 2017 while posting a 2.74 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 24.5 strikeout percentage.
