Royals' Jorge Soler diagnosed with strained oblique
Kansas City Royals outfielder Jorge Soler has been diagnosed with a strained oblique and will likely open the 2017 season on the disabled list.
Soler's disabled list stint can be backdated to sometime in March, which would allow him to return after only the first week of the regular season. The 25-year-old outfielder was acquired from the Chicago Cubs this winter in exchange for closer Wade Davis, but he's struggled to a .143/.254/.286 slash (59 plate appearances) this spring. Terrance Gore is in line to take Soler's spot on the Opening Day roster.
Soler is projected to hit .259 this upcoming season, according to numberFire's models, with 15 home runs and 49 RBI's across 401 plate appearances.
