San Francisco Giants pitcher Will Smith will undergo Tommy John surgery on his left elbow next week.
The procedure was recommended by two separate doctors, as opposed to risking a failed rehab attempt. San Francisco owns Smith's right through 2019.
The 27-year-old left-hander turned in a 2.95 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 34.7 strikeout percentage across 18 1/3 innings (26 appearances) for the Giants last season after being acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in August.
