Stephen Strasburg expected to get the Nationals' Opening Day call

Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg is lined up to start on Opening Day.

What It Means:

Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer would be the Nationals' first choice, but a stress fracture in his right ring finger is expected to push his season debut back to the third regular-season game. Nothing is official, but Gio Gonzalez is penciled in for the second game while Tanner Roark should toe the rubber in the fourth.

In 2017, numberFire's models project Strasburg to post a 3.23 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 27.0 strikeout percentage across 181 innings while earning a 14-7 record.
