Giants' Will Smith (elbow) to seek second opinion
San Francisco Giants reliever Will Smith (elbow) will seek a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
It was confirmed by an MRI earlier this week that Smith suffered a sprain and strain in his left elbow, meaning Tommy John surgery might be necessary. Understandably, the 27-year-old left-hander wants to keep his options open before committing to a procedure that will cost him the entire 2017 season. Smith was penciled in as the Giants' primary setup man before the diagnosis.
Without accounting for the injury, numberFire's models expect Smith to record a 3.03 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 26.4 strikeout percentage across 50 2/3 innings this upcoming season.
