Greg Bird

Yankees confirm Greg Bird will start at first

New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird has been named the team's starter at the position, per manager Joe Girardi.

What It Means:

This isn't exactly news, but the Yankees did sign Chris Carter last month and Bird is coming back from labrum surgery, so there was some question as to who would get the nod. Bird squashed whatever doubt may have existed this spring by mashing four home runs with a .421/.500/.947 slash and 1.447 OPS across 44 plate appearances. He's a nice late-round target for fantasy leagues.

numberFire's models project Bird to hit .251 with 21 home runs and 53 RBI's across 402 plate appearances this season.
