Red Sox name Rick Porcello as Opening Day starter
Boston Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello will be the Opening Day starter, manager John Farrell announced Wednesday.
This means Chris Sale will not be first to the mound for Boston. Porcello was the Cy Young Award winner in 2016, going 22-4 with a 3.15 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 21.2 strikeout percentage across 223 innings (27g games).
The 28-year-old right-hander is expected to record a 3.85 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 20.0 strikeout percentage across 196 1/3 innings next season with a 16-10 record.
