Rockies' Ian Desmond to have surgery on hand Wednesday
Colorado Rockies outfielder/first baseman Ian Desmond will have surgery Wednesday to repair the fractured second metacarpal bone in his left hand.
Desmond broke his hand after getting hit by a pitch on Sunday. While there is no official word on how long he will be out, don't count on Desmond to be available until May at the earliest. Mark Reynolds will fill in at first base until Desmond is ready.
Desmond had a nice bounce back season with the Texas Rangers in 2016, batting .285/.335/.446 with 22 home runs, 86 RBI's and 21 stolen bases across 677 plate appearances.
