Boston's Carson Smith (elbow) throws light bullpen session
Boston Red Sox reliever Carson Smith (elbow) threw a light bullpen session Monday in camp.
Smith received Tommy John surgery for his elbow last May and this is his first time throwing off a mound since the procedure. The 27-year-old right-hander is expected to be ready to join the Red Sox staff by midseason. He was limited to only 2 2/3 major league innings in 2016.
Smith's last healthy season in the bigs was with the Seattle Mariners in 2015. He posted 2.31 ERA and 32.4 strikeout percentage across 70 innings while recording 13 saves in 18 opportunities.
