Jake Peavy will remain free agent while he tends to family
Free agent starting pitcher Jake Peavy has yet to sign with a team due to family issues.
"It hurts not to be in spring training," Peavy told ESPN. "I know that day is coming, but right now being a dad is absolutely No. 1. There’s no way in a million years that I could leave my boys at this time." The 35-year-old right-hander is in the midst of a divorce and is the father of four young sons, but he'll probably have multiple offers to choose from if/when he's ready.
Peavy spun a 5.54 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 19.6 strikeout percentage across 118 2/3 innings for the San Francisco Giants last season. He went 5-9 in 21 starts (31 games).
