Cubs prospect Eloy Jimenez hopes to make Opening Day roster
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Eloy Jimenez said that he hopes to make the Opening Day roster.
"I think [it’s possible]. All I’ve got to do is play good and prove to them that I’m ready to play, and see what happens," Jimenez said through an interpreter. It might be a fun thought, it's not a realistic one. He had fine numbers in the low minors last year, but an outright jump to the big league club at this point in his development would be a major surprise. Even if he was ready, there may not be room for the talented youngster to play frequently in a packed outfield.
The 20-year-old spent the 2016 season at Low-A South Bend, where he hit .329/.369/.532 with 14 homers and 81 RBI over 432 at-bats.
