Washington Nationals catcher Derek Norris will likely be traded after the club signed free agent catcher Matt Wieters, manager Dusty Baker said on Tuesday.
Norris was acquired in a trade with the San Diego Padres at the beginning of December, but the Nationals apparently didn't feel comfortable with the 28-year-old serving as their primary backstop. Baker believes "there's always someone looking for a front line catcher," and Norris probably will draw some interest from a few clubs.
Norris struggled from the dish in 2016, turning in career-lows with a .186/.255/.328 slash and .252 wOBA across 458 plate appearances for the Padres. His 30.3 percent strikeout rate was the highest of his five seasons in the big leagues.
