Nationals' Max Scherzer (finger) unsure about status for Opening Day
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (finger) played catch Thursday but would not commit to being ready for Opening Day.
Scherzer continues to deal with a stress fracture in the knuckle of his right ring finger that bothered him down the stretch last season. It's not too big of a concern at this point, and Scherzer is expected to throw his first bullpen session within the next few days.
Scherzer dealt a 2.96 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 31.5 percent strikeout rate across 34 regular season starts last season (228 1/3 innings).
