Braves' Sean Rodriguez undergoes shoulder surgery, expected to miss season

Atlanta Braves infielder Sean Rodriguez underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the rotator cuff in his left shoulder.

What It Means:

Rodriguez was injured in a car crash on January 28, two months after finalizing a two-year deal with the Braves. He was slated to play second base for Atlanta, but is now expected to miss the entire season. They have since acquired Brandon Phillips from the Cincinnati Reds to handle duties on second.

Rodriguez set career-highs with a .270/.349/.510 slash and .363 wOBA while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates last season. Across 342 plate appearances, he tallied 18 home runs and 56 RBI's -- both of which were also career-bests.
