Michael Wacha expected to be in Cardinals' rotation if healthy

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Michael Wacha is likely to be in the team's rotation "if he's physically able," general manager John Mozeliak said Tuesday.

What It Means:

The fifth spot in the Cardinals' rotation appears to be available all of a sudden, following news on Tuesday that Alex Reyes may require Tommy John surgery. Wacha was plagued by problems with his shoulder last season, so he's no sure thing to hold down a starting gig. Luke Weaver would likely be next in line.

Across 138 innings in 2016, Wacha spun a 5.09 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 18.8 strikeout percentage, all of which were career-worsts.
