Travis Wood comes to terms with Royals

Free agent starting pitcher Travis Wood will sign with the Kansas City Royals, reports Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

What It Means:

It's a two-year deal worth $12 million, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Wood served strictly as a reliever for the Chicago Cubs last season, but he should have a chance to compete with Nate Karns and Matt Strahm for the final spot in the Royals' rotation.

Wood spent his first five years in the majors as a full-time starter with both the Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs. During that span, he twirled a 4.19 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 18.5 strikeout percentage across 776 innings (34-48 record). As a reliever, he's posted a 2.83 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 24.7 strikeout percentage across 124 frames.
