Rays inquiring with Rangers about Jurickson Profar
The Tampa Bay Rays have "checked in" with the Texas Rangers regarding a possible trade for infielder Jurickson Profar, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Grant says "it hasn't gained any momentum to this point," so nothing appears imminent. It's been reported that the Rays are likely to move Brad Miller to second base and then sign or trade for a first baseman. However, this is another option being explored. Profar currently looks to be in line to platoon at first base, although they are one of the probable landing spots for free agent Mike Napoli.
Profar is not turning out to be the superstar prospect he was touted as, slashing just .239/.321/.338 with 5 home runs across 307 plate appearances in 2016. That said, he turns just 24 next season and could be a good buy-low option for the Rays.
